Candied Chamoy Apples

Chamoy apples, otherwise known as tamarindo apples, are apples which are candied and then layered with chamoy and tajin. This is a Mexican sweet and savory snack that tastes delicious and is super easy to make. My brother learned how to make these and showed them to me. Ever since then this has been a staple in our get togethers.

How To Make:

  1. In a saucepan, add the sugar, corn syrup and water

  2. Let these ingredients come to a boil

  3. Then, add the red food coloring. This step is optional but it adds a really pretty color to your apples.

  4. Keep boiling until your mixture gets a bit thicker.

  5. In that time, put the wooden dowels in your apples.

  6. To check whether the mixture is done or not, put it on parchment paper. If it gets hard after a few seconds then it's done. If it's still runny, keep boiling it.

  7. Carefully, dip your apples into the sauce you created, layering each side of the apple. Then stick it upright on a pan.

  8. Let this cool down in the fridge for a little bit.

  9. In two separate plates, put tajin and chamoy.

  10. First, dip the apple in the chamoy, then in the tajin.

  11. Cut and enjoy!

Extra Information:

  • This recipe works best with green apples, but if you don't have them you can also use regular red apples.

  • The red food coloring is optional but it creates a prettier look for your apples.

  • To cool down the apples quicker, put them in the fridge for 10 minutes.

  • To store the apples, just place them in the fridge.

  • This recipe can also work for other fruits such as strawberries or grapes.
